FM 2006

Post by AMC »

Just found a copy of this while having a bit of a clear out and fancied a bash at it, no problem installing it, but nothing happens when I try load it up? I'm not the most tech savvy but running it as admin and amended the compatibility settings (tried Windows 98/ME - Minimum req on box, Windows XP (Service Pack 2) - Recommended on the box, and Windows XP (SP 3) - what it automatically changed to after running the troubleshoot).

Anyone got any ideas?

It might be to do with the disc copy protection that was on the original game. Have you installed the latest patch (6.0.3)? I'm not 100% sure but that might remove the restrictions.

Cheers mate, will give it a try later when back home, I did remember about a secure key back in the day but weren’t prompted for it when I installed/tried loading it up, although I do still have the manual which I think contained it if needs be.

Cheers for your help anyway mate.

Oh i like this version, went back to it more than any other FM, think you need to do 6.03 then 6.04 rings a bell.

It was imo the best FM before it turned into a boring flight simulator taking ages to do a season

Will look for 6.04 then, just giving your 93/94 a bash at the moment.

Might be the DPI settings that you sometimes have to change to get CM0102 working!

Find the FM executable file, then click on Properties, and find anything relating to "high DPI settings" and disable them. The number of options relating to this can vary. Make sure DPI compatibility is set to "Application" if that is an option.

I've got it all working on Windows 7, although I appreciate Windows 10 is a whole different ball game!

Really getting some nostalgia from loading up my only save game on here! Fred up top, Sivok solid as a rock in front of the back 4. You have full control of reserves and u18s, and can sign a tonne of players and staff members. There are definitely some nice additions to this game without making it overcomplicated. Think the last FM I enjoyed was 2010, but 2006 was definitely my favourite!

It sure was. It's fun playing again, although not having any patches to change certain things is a bit of a bummer!

It’s possible to play FM 2006 on Virtualbox. Just boot up either Windows XP or 7. I’ve done it without problems.
The only thing you have to do is to mount the FM 06 iso inside Virtualbox with Daemontools and then install it. Use a SafeDisk blocker before starting the game. This also applies to FM05, 07 and 08.

Yeah, I know. It’s a hassle. But this is the only way to get it up and running on Windows 10.
