INTRODUCTION
I knew it was wrong, i knew i would be shown the door quicker than i had come through it if i was discovered, but a mixture of nerves and the thought of kicking the habit was too much at this moment in time. I looked down at the table and glanced nervously at the door, i figured i had time to finish, i picked up the last bit of my juicy bacon sandwich and savoured the flavour, such things were frowned upon here and i had to learn to live with that.
Rewind too five days earlier. I had parked my car and headed towards the reception of The New Lawn, home of Forest Green Rovers. I had a meeting arranged with Dale Vince, the chairman to discuss the vacant managerial position at the club. I didnt have any experience as a manager but i had played football at a decent level and believed in myself and the ideas i had for the club. I had put together a pretty convincing presentation. Mr Vince welcomed me into his office, he told me about the club and his beliefs. He told me how the staff and players are only allowed vegan food while on site and at the training ground, how the stadium has solar panels that power most of the stadium. The pitch is organic and the only one of its kind in England. He told me that although this part of the club is not open to negotiaion on change but the football side of things would be entirely up to the new manager. He told me how he had invested enough money into the stadium and training ground that now he just wanted a successful team to go with it.
I presented him with my presentation and he seemed impressed although didnt give anything away at the time. He told me the club would be making their decision shortly after conducting all their interviews. 48 hours later i was offered the job and thats brings us up to date on why im currently hiding in my new office, trying not to be discovered eating a forbidden food. With the bacon sandwich now safely in my stomach and my nerves now beginning to settle down i looked at the desk in front of me. The coaching team had done a good job, folders with player reports, potential tactics, transfer targets, pre-season plans and loads more. For a moment i wondered if i had put myself in to deep...i sat their for a moment staring at the documents wondering where to start....i shook my head clear, this was no time to second guess....
time to get to work....
