Mahomes has probably just normalised greatness at this point, but part of me felt he was the last man standing as the other candidates fell away one-by-one (which is probably reflected in Jefferson being nominated - I agree that he shoud be in the mix, but we all know it's a QB award). But yeah, just checked out Mahomes' numbers and he did indeed have an outstanding season (guess I didn't watch much of the Chiefs this year), thoroughly deserved MVP, though it could've been interesting if Hurts had played every game.
Obviously glad that Daboll picked up CotY but feel he benefitted from an excellent start and therefore 'grabbing the narrative' early - people were crowning him by about week 6. Carroll probably caught up with him in the end, with a Seahawks team that was meant to come nowhere, along with the Giants. And obviously Pederson would've deserved it too, again with a better second half of the season. But I actually would've given it to Shanahan - think I declared the 49ers' season dead on these very pages when Lance went down, so to continue to thrive even after Garoppolo also went down... that's no coincidence, that's all down to coaching.
As for Comeback Player, god knows what the rules are there. Gave up on that when Rivers won it in 2013, basically just cos he was crap in 2012 and then reverted to average the next year. In my mind though, Saquon would've had to be coming back from his injuries (whereas he played most of last season) - I'm fine with Geno getting it, as it's his 'comeback' as a starting QB, having not been the guy since 2014 with the Jets.
Speaking of the Jets, can't knock their GM for that draft, coming away with Offensive and Defensive RotY.
