There used to be a post/ thread about what key attributes each position needed.

Any chance of someone finding it for me? There's a couple of bottles of plop in it for you.

Beezer put this together on the old site - seems decent but can argue on some areas. For example I always look for "positioning" for a defender

On a related note, the Tsigalko/Van Nistelrooy thread was crucial. I'm hoping that the posts over there are gonna be fully migrated into this new forum.

Fully agree! First thing I checked here was 'has the Tsigalko/VN thread made it?'

Nothing stopping either of you copying it across, we don’t have any secret way of copying things across, you just have to create a new thread and copy and paste each post.

Copy from the old forum

Taken from Churky's Win Everything with Anyone

Players

All positions demand Determination.

On top of that...

a) goalkeepers need only Handling, and maybe Reflexes and Positioning, but it's not vital
b) central defenders, fullbacks, and defensive midfielders need Positioning. Other logical things like Jumping, Marking and Tackling are nice to have, but not really necessary
c) other midfielders need Passing and Off the Ball. Again, many other attributes can help, but you can focus on those two, especially in the lower leagues
d) forwards need Jumping, Pace and Off the Ball

Hi mate, do you have screenshots of the attributes on that thread? I can't access it somehow, it says "Database Error". Thanks!

Was wondering what you all think are the most important attributes for a player on the game?

I think I’ve read before that Determination is the one above all that you should ensure every player has a high rating of…

Any other essentials?

I won't sign anybody with high Injury proneness, I always look for minimum 10+ stamina, work rate and natural fitness.

Never look at determination
Stamina is my number 1
Many say positioning

Stamina is good, but determination is better :) In my opinion.

Key Attributes for each Position

Post by Here2Win79 »

Availability is the most important ability. Therefore for all the outfield positions other than striker, it’s like the guys said above has to come down to stamina / nf/ ip and since stamina is the only visible one, stamina. Even stamina 13-15 can get you a full back that can’t complete 90 mins.
It’s a bit like Maslow‘s hierarchy of needs, you *want* your players to have good otb, positioning, det, bravery but you *need* them to have appropriate stamina for their position if you want to be able to play pressing / hard tackling / run with ball.
Unless you can get the rules changed halfway thru the season to allow five subs. Then it’s irrelevant.

Key Attributes for each Position

Post by KVD »

:geek: Hi everyone,

First time posting here. Sorry if the following are questions that have already been asked and/or if there is in fact a detailed post that explains what all the stats stand for exactly. But since I was not able to find it after a couple of searches I figured I would take the plunge and ask.

I did a few Google searches first, but the results are inconclusive and I am also not sure if I can 'trust' the sources to be correct.

Ideally, I would love to see a post that explains what ALL the stats entail, though some are obviously much more self explanatory than others, this would still be nice. But my main questions are about the more ambiguous ones. Please help (if you know)!

Q1: Is Positioning purely a defensive attribute? My online search results certainly suggest this, however I am for example baffled that in the default database Romario has 19 for this stat. That at least suggests it might be a useful attribute for goal poachers too, as Romario did not defend for a single minute in his life. To me, it would make more sense if the attribute refers to the general positioning sense a player has across the field, but of course I'd like to know if this is accurate or not.

Q2: Basically the reverse of Q1, is Movement truly an offensive attribute only, or does it simply describe how well the player is able to find space across the pitch?

Q3: Is One on ones strictly a GK related attribute? Or does any player benefit from it and does it simply reflect their dueling ability? Or perhaps it only relates to the specific scenario that an outfield player is one on one with a goalie and they both benefit from this ability being higher? I am again confused, because some strikers have this stat high in the editor, but definitely not all. It certainly seems to be at least a GK stat, that is at least consistent with stats assigned in the default database.

Q4: Does temperament reflect how easily the player loses their temper or how well they keep it? I found Roy Keane to have a low score, so I think I know the answer, but would still like to be sure. So basically is 20 someone that boils over quickly or a picture of serenity?

Thanks in advance for any insights and help!

This is official CM0102 Editor cm0102ed help notes:

Staff attributes

Please remember that any numeric rating is indicating the rating of the attribute on world-wide basis and not relative to the league or competition the staff is playing in. This means that in an attribute that accepts values from 0 to 20, 0 is random, 1 is the worst possible standard anywhere in the world at any time, so 20 is the best possible standard anywhere in the world at any time.

If this is not taken into consideration when changing the data, this will in turn make a newly created game very unrealistic.

*** Renaming staff: You should use this edit (Staff Edit) to change the names of any staff. If the name set as does not exist, it will be automatically created and added to the appropriate name list.

Page 1: Personal

*** Attribute: First name, second name, common name
Description: Names. These are actually references to the first names, second names and commo names name tables. You can choose names from the drop-down list by clicking the down-arrow button or pressing the down arrow key (or alt key and the down arrow key). You don’t, however, have to go to the name tables to add or delete names. You can simply type a name of your liking in the edit box, and if that name does not exist it will be created in the appropriate name table.
The common name is the staff’s nickname. If this is set, generally this name will be used throughout the game instead of his first and second names, though you will find these in the staff’s Transfer tab on the staff screen in the game.
Type: Text string.
Length: Max. 51 characters.

*** Attribute: Date of birth
Description: Date format DD.MM.YYYY (DD – day of month, MM – month of year, YYYY - year). If this field is set the game will use it as the birthday of this staff. If it isn’t set, it will use the Year of birth field if that is set, or create a random date of birth if none of them are set.
Type: Date (text string)
Value range: 01.01.1915 – 20.07.1990

*** Attribute: Year of birth
Description: This attribute is only used if Date of birth is empty. The game will then use this (if set, i.e. > 0) and create a random date of birth in that year when initialising a new game.
Type: Number.
Value range: From 0 (not set) to 1990.

*** Attribute: Classification
Description: The classification of a staff, this determines if the staff is a player, a non-player (e.g. manager, coach, etc), or both.
Type: Text.
Values: One of the following: “Not set”, “Player”, “Non-player”, “Non-player & Player”.

*** Attribute: Nation
Description: The nationality of the staff.
Type: Text.
Values: Name of the nation picked from the dropdown list.

*** Attribute: Second nation
Description: Second nationality of the staff. The staff does not need a work permit in any of these countries, and if any of them are European Union members (former EC), he does not need a work permit anywhere within the EU.
Type: Text.
Values: Name of the nation picked from the dropdown list.

*** Attribute: Int. apps (International appearances)
Description: How many caps the staff has got for his (first) nation.
Type: Number.
Range: 0-255

*** Attribute: Int. goals (International goals)
Description: How many goals the staff has scored for his country.
Type: Number
Range: 0-255

Page 2: Contract

A staff can, on occasion, have both a club and nation contract. Mark Hughes is such an example. This is quite rare, however. Players cannot be given nation contracts.

Club contract:

*** Attribute: Contracted
Description: What club the staff is contracted to.
Type: Text
Values: Name of club picked from dropdown list.

*** Attribute: Job as
Description: What type of job the staff has got as his club. If you pick a setting that does not conform with this staff’s current classification, the editor will ask you if you want it to change the classification to reflect your choice – if you press Ok, the classification will change to what is needed to make your Job as the one you requested.
Type: Text
Values: One of the following: Not set, Chairman, Managing director, General manager, Director of football, Manager, Assistant manager, Coach, Scout, Physio, Player, Player/Manager, Player/Assistant manager or Player/Coach.

*** Attribute: Date joined
Description: The date the staff joined this club
Type: Date
Range: 01.01.1915 – 20.07.2000

*** Attribute: Contract expires
Description: When the contract expires. Please note that contract details for managers are not used in the game, so for managers this field is for guidance purposes only.
Type: Date
Range: 20.07.2000 – 20.07.2020

*** Attribute: Playing squad
Description: In what squad the staff plays.
Type: Text
Values: One of the following: Not set, Senior squad or Reserve squad.

*** Attribute: Estimated wage
Description: The estimated wage this player receives from his club in british pounds (£). This value may be altered slightly when the game initialises a new game.
Type: Number
Range/Length: 0 – 999 999 999

*** Attribute: Estimated value
Description: The approximate value of this staff. This value will be changed slightly upon game initialisation by the in-game calucations. If not set (0), the game will calculate this automatically.
Type: Number
Range/Length: 0 – 999 999 999

Nation contract

*** Attribute: Contracted
Description: What nation the staff is contracted to. Note: A player cannot be contracted to both a club and a nation at the same time.
Type: Text
Values: Name of the nation picked from the dropdown list.

*** Attribute: Job as
Description: Type of job for the staff for his nation.
Type: Text
Values: One of the following: Not set, Chairman, Managing director, General manager, Director of football, Manager, Assistant manager, Coach, Scout, Physio, Player, Player/Manager, Player/Assistant manager or Player/Coach.

*** Attribute: Date joined
Description: The date the staff joined this nation.
Type: Date
Range: 01.01.1915 – 20.07.2000

*** Attribute: Contract expires
Description: When the contract expires.
Type: Date
Range: 20.07.2000 – 20.07.2020

Description: How much of a sportsman he is.

*** Attribute: Temperament

Page 4: Preferences

*** Attribute: Favourite clubs
*** Attribute: Disliked clubs

Type: Text.
Values: Name of club chosen from dropdown list.

*** Attribute: Favourite staff
*** Attribute: Disliked staff
Description: Favourite and disliked staff. A staff would, given the chance, like to join one of his favourite staff. The opposite for disliked staff.
Type: Text.
Values: Name of staffchosen from dropdown list.

Page 7: Position (Players only)

Playing ability

*** Attribute: Current ability
Description: Current overall ability. Please note that the best players in the world generally should have a value between 180-195. Only Maradona and Pele would have 200.
Type: Number
Range: 0-200, 0 = random, 200 = best.

*** Attribute: Potential ability
Description: How good he can become in the future – this value must never be below his current ability.
Type: Number
Range: 0-200, 0 = random, 200 = best. There are two special values for younger players: -1 = very promising (auto-generated between about 120 to 200, biased towards the lower end), -2 = very promising (auto-generated between about 120 to 200, biased towards the higher end, generally meaning 160-200).

*** Attribute: Home reputation
Description: His reputation in his home country. Reflects what people thinks of his achievments in his home nation. This value is not always as high as his current ability, especially if he is inconsistent and unproven. This value will also be the same as his current reputation if he is at a club in his home country.
Type: Number
Range: 0-200, 0 = random, 200 = best.

*** Attribute: Current reputation
Description: Overall current reputation. This number is not always as high as his current ability, especially if he is inconsistent and unproven.
Type: Number
Range: 0-200, 0 = random, 200 = best.

*** Attribute: World reputation
Description: How good he is reputed to be by people on a worldwide basis. It will not always be as high as his current ability, especially if he is inconsistent and unproven. For most players, world reputation will be below 100, only well known players and established internationals will be over 100.
Type: Number
Range: 0-200, 0 = random, 200 = best.

Sides

The following attributes are numbers in the range between 0 (random) and 20 (best).

*** Attribute: Right side
Description: His ability to play on the right side of the pitch.

*** Attribute: Left side
Description: His ability to play on the left side of the pitch.

*** Attribute: Central
Description: His ability to play in the centre of the pitch.

Positions

The following attributes are this player’s preferred playing positions. You shouldn’t give too many 20s here, as true versatile players are quite rare. If someone has a secondary position, he should be given a 15 instead of a 20. The values are numbers in the range from 0 (random) to 20 (best).

*** Attributes: Goalkeeper, Sweeper, Defender, Defensive midfielder, Midfielder, Attacking midfielder, Attacker and Wing back.
Description: The respective positions and his happiness and ability to play in those positions.

Note: These settings will affect the player’s attributes (see Page 8: Player). Setting a staff to both a goalkeeper and an outfield player, for example, the game will assume he’s a goalkeeper and make calcuations so that his outfield attributes will be heavily modified compared to your data if the game thinks that is necessary.

*** Attribute: Free role
Description: How much he prefers to play in a free role where he can switch between left, right and centre.

Page 8: Player (Players only)

The following attributes are this player’s characteristics. They are all numbers in the range 0 (random) to 20 (best).

Please note that the game will make certain calcuations on the data in attempt to make it as realistic as possible, so your input values may change in the game compared to your data input in the editor. A staffs ability and reputation should reflect its other attributes, or these attributes may differ quite a bit from the data you put in.

*** Attribute: Acceleration
Description: How quickly he can reach full speed from a stand still.

*** Attribute: Agression
Description: How aggressive he is (without necessarily being dirty – see dirtiness).

*** Attribute: Balance
Description: How well he keeps balance when challenged.

It's good to realise that this is just one person's findings.

I looked at the different weight scales used by the CM Scout Instrinsic app and to give just one example, MadScientist doesn't have Anticipation high at all for goalkeepers. It doesn't even make his top ten for goalkeepers.
