Sorry I have no idea, don’t think you can change language in this version, could be wrong. You can certainly change currency

The exe doesn't work and when I transfer the data files on their own they dont work either. This the umpteenth time I have tried this database, converting to zip, using starter kit, using original game, changing file names etc...nothing works.

STARTER KIT IS FOR 0102, THIS IS 0001!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody else has had an issue, it is good to go.

You shouldn't be converting anything to a zip, it is a rar file

Download

Open rar file with winrar, extract to desktop the whole folder 1234, rename folder from 1234 to Championship Manager 00-01, click on cm0001, just tried it there and fine.

Everything is in the folder, you don't transfer or change anything apart from the folder name.

Love having all the legends but is it possible to keep them longer. I thought Id be clever and change a bunch of them to 17 year olds with cm explorer but after that it wont load a new game

That's just using save game editors, you always have that risk, just use the editor i provided with the game and change players ages younger if you want to do that.
